The ELSI Community of Practice platform, part of BBMRI.it, serves as a digital community focused on Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) and Ethical, Legal, and Social Issues (ELSI). Its purpose is to enhance peer comparison, facilitate exchanges, and promote the sharing of best practices, tools, and emerging topics among all actors involved in biobanking research ecosystem. The platform aims to provide an open, user-friendly, and collaborative digital environment.
Every participant plays an essential and irreplaceable role in this ecosystem. Citizens and patients initiate and engage in the process, while also being the primary stakeholders. Ethics committees are responsible for evaluating and monitoring the process, clinical staff provide valuable information and collect samples and data, and biobanks ensure that the rights and consents of participants are upheld. Moreover, biobanks oversee access to samples and data and the return of results. Researchers are tasked with developing new health and research scenarios, which ultimately benefit citizens and patients.
